A Different Point of Hearing

Ticket prices: 60 PLN standard / 40 PLN concession

These days, the musical canon encompasses more than just the set of “essential works” defined by experts. It also includes those pieces that have crossed over from the classical repertoire into popular culture – the ones most often heard through home speakers. Who, after all, doesn’t recognise the whistled strains of the Habanera or the Toreador Song from Bizet’s Carmen, or the familiar melodies of Morning and In the Hall of the Mountain King from Grieg’s Peer Gynt – now staples of television adverts? And who, on hearing the opening of Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony or the finale of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, doesn’t smile at the memory of the dramatic entrance of the villainous Gargamel in The Smurfs? Until now, only a very select few have had the chance to hear these pieces emerging from within the orchestra – seated at the very heart of the performance, shoulder to shoulder with the musicians. Nowhere else in Poland can you experience your favourite music quite like this – from the inside, seated among the players themselves. Change your perspective – come and take a seat in the orchestra!

The concert "A different point of hearing" is a kind of aural experiment. The audience will be able to... sit among the orchestra, chair to chair with the Sinfonia Varsovia’s musicians. The unusual formula of the concert – three shorter parts and two longer intermissions – will allow participants to change their seat and gain new listening perspective. The repertoire has been selected to show the audience the different groups of instruments and allow to feel the energy and tension in the music from the inside in the best possible way.
