Batucada – Brazilian percussion orchestra

Known from the Rio Carnaval, batucada is loved for its samba energy, the spectacular display of a large group of percussionists, and the joy of playing, for which no professional instrumental skills are needed. All instruments, including surdos (bass drums), caixas (snare drums), agogô (bells), chocalho, tamborim, repinique, and rattles are meant to be played in motion. During our 90-minute meetings with Miki Wielecki, the easy rhythms played by the sections will be transformed into impressive pieces to be performed at the end. Instruments will be available for up to 35 people.

Where, when, and how is music born? Perhaps it is even closer than we think? Perhaps it is just inside us? Let’s try to find the answer. For twelve June afternoons and evenings, we will be engaged in various musical and movement activities as well as exercises for rest, relaxation, and fun. No experience or skills are needed – just playfulness, good mood, and openness. Together we will be rediscovering music, listening to it inside ourselves, and awakening our imagination, senses, voice, and body. We encourage active participation, regardless of musical skills or physical fitness.
