The legend of the Polish Chamber Orchestra is turning 50! Although the activity of this ensemble is currently suspended, its founder – Maestro Jerzy Maksymiuk – is still active and recently, together with Sinfonia Varsovia, won the prestigious Fryderyk Award for the Perfectionist album. The spirit of the Polish Chamber Orchestra is therefore present among Sinfonia Varsovia’s instrumentalists regardless of age, and its legendary quality and artistic achievements are written into the DNA of the Warsaw-based orchestra. The program of the anniversary concert will include works for which the Polish Chamber Orchestra was renowned in the years of its outstanding activity, such as Mozart’s divertimenti or Telemann’s amusing Don Quixote suite, as well as the finest examples of 20th century Polish music. The program will be complemented by works specially prepared for the concert: the oneiric Landscape by Andrzej Panufnik, Concerto for string orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz and the highly energetic Sinfonietta for two string orchestras by Kazimierz Serocki. By performing these works, the Sinfonia Varsovia string group will pay tribute to its predecessor.
