On 22 March 2017 Sinfonia Varsovia will perform at the Teatr Wielki the National Opera with Veriko Tchumburidze – winner of the 15th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition. The conductor will be Aziz Shokhakimov.

The 15th edition of this prestigious violin competition took place in October 2016. The first prize went to the youngest finalist, the then 20 year old representative of Turkey and Georgia – Veriko Tchumburidze. Consisting of 12 renowned soloists, the Jury not only valued the artist’s excellent technique, but also her expression and stage personality. The concert with Sinfonia Varsovia is the Orchestra’s reward for the competition winner.

The concert will begin with Karol Szymanowski’s Concert Overture in E major. Then, Veriko Tchumburidze will take the stage to play Henryk Wieniawski 2nd Violin Concerto in D minor – the same one she performed in the Competition’s final stage. “(…) finally a more interesting Wieniawski appeared, light, romantic, spring-like, played by Veriko Tchumburidze. (….) the young violinist managed to bring out the proper mood and the finale had flair” – wrote journalist Dorota Szwarcman of Tchumburidze’s performance. After the intermission the Orchestra will perform Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.

The conductor’s podium will be occupied by Uzbekistan-born Aziz Shokhakimov. The career of this young conductor has picked up pace when, at the age of 21, he received 2nd prize at the Gustav Mahler International Conductors’ Competition. Since then he has conducted many renowned orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Dresdner Philharmoniker. In 2016 he once again won in a prestigious competition for young conductors, this time in the Salzburg Festival. Shokhakimov has worked many times with Sinfonia Varsovia in, among others, the Festival International de Piano de La Roque d’Anthéron.

Tickets priced 30-100 zł are available in the box office of the Teatr Wielki the National Opera and on-line:
