Veriko Tchumburidze – winner of the 15th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition will perform in Warsaw with the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra. The concert is one of the prizes the violinist won having placed first in the competition.

“This is one of the greatest competitions in the world, so I am very happy to receive this prize” – said Veriko Tchumburidze after the results were announced. The violinist won the jury’s acclaim with her uncommon temperament and individual approach to the works she performed. On 22 March in Teatr Wielki – the National Opera in Warsaw Tchumburidze, accompanied by Sinfonia Varsovia will play Henryk Wieniawski’s 2nd Violin Concerto in D minor – the same one she performed in the Competition’s final stage.

Veriko Tchumburidze is 21 years old. Her first success came when she was only eight, winning 1st prize at the Gülden Turalı (Georgia) National Violin Competition in 2004. Her talent was recognised several years later when the artist won 1st prize at the 7th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, achieving highest score and unanimous verdict of the jury (2012). This event threw the door wide open to an international career. Tchumburidze plays a violin made by Giambattista Guadagnini in 1756, provided thanks to the generosity of Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben in 2016.

Sinfonia Varsovia and Veriko Tchumburidze will perform under the direction of Aziz Shokhakimov, with whom the Orchestra had many opportunities to perform in, among others, the La Folle Journée Festival in Warsaw (2012) and the Festival International de Piano de La Roque d’Anthéron (2016).

The programme of the concert will also feature Karol Szymanowski’s Concert Overture in E major Op.12 and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No.5 in D minor Op.47.
