Yet another edition of Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street takes off on 20 May. Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra would like to invite Warsaw residents to enjoy summer weekends with classical music for the 7th time. The cycle of 28 free concerts will last until the end of August.
Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street is a cycle of concerts of classical chamber music oriented at both classical music connoisseurs and at music lovers only just discovering the pleasures of listening to classical music. The programmes of concerts have been developed with a wide range of listeners in mind and cover the whole spectrum of classical music, from the baroque to contemporary music.
In the course of nearly four months concerts there will be performances by both renowned artists and by talented artists of the young generation. The cycle will begin with a concert by famous mezzo-soprano Urszula Kryger, the first Polish singer to have appeared on the stage of the famous Italian La Scala years ago. French clarinettist Jean-Marc Fessard will perform on XX June. Fessard was invited to Warsaw to run masterclasses in the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy.
The Summer Concerts cycle will also feature participants of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy, the Opera Academy and laureates of prestigious music competitions, including the 10th Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Piano Competition.
This year’s edition features many novelties. Three concerts will be devoted to quartets: The Whoop Group, a saxophone quartet, Poco Leggero clarinet quartet and a guitar quartet – the Erlendis Quartet. This is the first time the Summer Concerts cycle will feature the harpsichord. The soloist will be Marcin Świątkiewicz, who will also lead this musical meeting. One of the concerts – held on the occasion of Children’s Day – will be dedicated to the youngest music lovers. The performers include Dorota Miśkiewicz and the Kwadrofonik ensemble, with the theme of the concert being “Lutosławski, Tuwim. Songs not just for Children”. The closing concert will feature musicians of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra – Anna Maria Staśkiewicz (violin), Katarzyna Budnik-Gałązka (viola) and Marcel Markowski (cello) together with pianist Piotr Kopczyński.
Concerts will be preceded by an introduction by musicologists and music critics, to acquaint the listeners with the historical and musical environment of the works. The introductions will be presented, among others, by Mariusz Gradowski, Piotr Wojciechowski, Ewa Chamczyk, Piotr Burakiewicz and Karol Furtak.
On the evening inaugurating the Summer Concerts cycle, the gate at 272 Grochowska Street will be open for the public till late into the night. This is because of the nationwide Night of the Museums event, which the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra has also joined this year. Listeners will experience meetings of music and the arts and concerts running late into the night.
Admission to all concerts is free.
