34 concerts, 85 artists, including 10 participants of this year’s Chopin Competition and capacity audiences. These were this year’s Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street in a nutshell. The grand finale takes place this weekend (5-6 September 2015).

Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street started on 16 May 2015 with a performance by a duet of excellent violinists – Krzysztof and Jakub Jakowicz. From that moment on, audiences gathering in the auditorium on each Saturday and Sunday enthusiastically reacted to performances by well-known artists (including Ewa Pobłocka, Andrzej Bauer), as well as those only setting out on the road to their musical careers. The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra which organises this informal festival of classical music has invited holders of Sinfonia Varsovia Foundation scholarships, members of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy and of the Opera Academy. There were also performances by participants of the 17th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition: Tymoteusz Bies, Rafał Błaszczyk, Łukasz Byrda, Łukasz Krupiński, Krzysztof Książek, Paweł Motyczyński, Piotr Pawlak, Zuzanna Pietrzak, Michał Szymanowski and Andrzej Wierciński. The concerts were traditionally preceded by introductions from musicologists and music critics who introduced the listeners to the climate and histories of the performed works.

The two final concerts of this year’s Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street cycle take place this weekend. On Saturday (5 September) we will have the opportunity to hear Sinfonia Varsovia Foundation scholar Wojciech Bafeltowski  (cello) and on Sunday (6 September), the string quintet of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra: Anna Maria Staśkiewicz and Zofia Endzelm (violins), Katarzyna Budnik-Gałązka (viola), Marcel Markowski  (cello) and Michał Sobuś  (double bass).

The next Summer Concerts at Grochowska cycle is a year away, but today the organisers would like to invite everyone to Chopin recitals which will take place in October. Pianists taking part in the 17th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition will be performing every day, from 5 to 15 October. Admission to these concerts is free.
