“Nature” is the theme of the latest edition of the international La Folle Journée Festival. The largest festival in the world to popularise classical music has just begun in Japan. Sinfonia Varsovia and the Polish Chamber Orchestra will perform with more than ten concerts in Niigata and Tokyo.
(30 April – 5 May 2016)

The Japanese edition of the international La Folle Journée festival has already begun and will continue for the next few days. This year, the festival will be hosted by four cities, with Sinfonia Varsovia and the Polish Chamber Orchestra performing in two: Niigata will see a smaller ensemble, while the full orchestra will play in Tokyo. The performances in Niigata are only a taste of the real musical madness which has been taking place in Tokyo since 2005. This year’s edition will feature more than 200 concerts, conferences and educational workshops. The concerts will consist of works which have been written in the course of several centuries – from the Renaissance to contemporary times. All, however, share a common theme – nature.

Sinfonia Varsovia’s and the Polish Chamber Orchestra’s programmes are very similar to those performed this year during the French edition of the festival. The Polish Chamber Orchestra will play once again with violinist Sayaka Shoji, performing The Four Seasons as recomposed by Max Richter. Sinfonia Varsovia’s concerts will also feature Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Creation, Isao Matsushita’s Hi-Ten-Yu – a concerto for percussion and orchestra featuring soloist Eitetsu Hayashi and Karol Szymanowski’s 1st Violin Concerto interpreted by Anna Maria Staśkiewicz. The Orchestra will be conducted by Robert Trevino, Daniel Reuss and Lio Kuokman.

The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra is the chief organiser of the Polish edition of the international festival. On 23-25 September, the Teatr Wielki – the National Opera in which La Folle Journée will be held, will resound – literally and symbolically with nature.
