Sinfonia Varsovia opens and closes the 3rd edition of the TRZY-CZTE-RY Festival, running from 22 May to 12 June. As intended by the organisers of the Festival, concert programmes feature contrasting works from various periods. Such confrontations, combining musical opposites move the listener to hear masterpieces of music, but in completely new contexts.

The Festival begins with Joseph Haydn’s 6-part Symphony in C major Hob I:60 Il distratto. Haydn is the oldest of the trio of composers referred to as the Viennese Classics. The Symphony will be followed by the overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, written by a youthful, 17 year-old Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and based on the masterpiece written by William Shakespeare. The contrast to works from the Classical and Romantic periods will be provided by two contemporary compositions – Zygmunt Krauze’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the composer himself as soloist and Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question. The conductor will be Ewa Strusińska.

The Festival’s last concert will be a meeting with the music of three Polish composers from various periods. First, Sinfonia Varsovia will perform Zygmunt Krauze’s Work for Orchestra No. 3. The evening’s second work will be Fryderyk Chopin’s virtuosic 2nd Piano Concerto with Ewa Pobłocka at the piano. The Festival’s last work is Krzysztof Penderecki’s aleatoric 1st Symphony – an important milestone for the composer, heralding his change of composing style. The Orchestra will be conducted by Michał Klauza.

The TRZY-CZTE-RY Festival Contexts. Contrasts. Confrontations. is being held for the third time. Its main objective is to show outstanding works from various periods in a less-than-obvious context. Faced off against each other, these works enable the listener to confront them, so as to reveal new interpretations and artistic perspectives..

The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra is one of the organisers of the Festival.
