For several years, the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra has been running a programme for young musicians about to embark on their careers as professional players. Guided by Sinfonia Varsovia’s best musicians, they hone their performance skills for one year with a view to join a professional orchestra. Master classes for participants of the 4th edition of the Academy will be open to the public and will take place in May and June and auditions will be held for the next edition of the project.
The Sinfonia Varsovia Academy is a project for young, talented musicians who will be applying to join the best orchestras in the near future. For one year, participants will refine skills connected strictly with the specifics of orchestral playing and auditioning to join an orchestra. Hard, systematic work will be rewarded – young musicians will be invited to join Sinfonia Varsovia in concert and recording projects. This is both a major challenge and an exceptional reward for musicians setting out to find their first jobs. Graduates of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy now play in the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the National Music Forum and in Sinfonia Varsovia.
The 4th edition of the programme is slowly coming to a close. This is a time when world-class artists arrive in Warsaw on special invitations from the Orchestra to work for several days with participants of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy. This year it’s the Croatian cellist Jelena Očić, one of the best flautists in the world – Davide Formisano, Portuguese clarinettist Antonio Saiote and Tomasz Tomaszewski, first concertmaster of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. All classes are open to the public – just come to the Orchestra’s home in Warsaw’s Kamionek district to watch great artists at work. Each of the invited musicians will showcase their art during Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street. These will take place on 15, 29 May and 26 June at 4:00 p.m. in the hall of the main building at 272 Grochowska Street. Admission to all events is free.
At the same time, the recruiting process for the fifth edition of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy has already started. This time we are inviting young musicians playing the viola, cello, double bass, clarinet or bassoon. Two semesters of workshops, run as individual classes and group sessions will be led by the leaders and soloists of Sinfonia Varsovia: Katarzyna Budnik–Gałązka and Grzegorz Stachurski (viola), Marcel Markowski and Piotr Mazurek (cello), Nicholas Franco and Michał Sobuś (double bass), Aleksander Romański (clarinet) and Zbigniew Płużek (bassoon). To join the Academy you must comply with requirements set out in the Rules and pass auditions which will be held this year on 2 and 27 June.
