The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra is commencing a new educational project – a cycle of workshops intended to refine the playing skills of orchestral musicians. The first edition of Akademia Sinfonia Varsovia is for violinists and cellists – Polish students and young graduates of music schools under 30 years of age. The workshops will be conducted as individual and group sessions, led by the concert masters of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra: Maria Machowska, Jakub Haufa and Jerzy Klocek.
The main objective of the project is to prepare young musicians for the profession of orchestral musician, using the knowledge of the concert masters of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.
“After completing another round of auditions to Sinfonia Varsovia, we came to the conclusion that while the candidates were more or less well-prepared for the solo programme – Bach or Mozart – the performance of orchestral parts left much to be desired, thus often preventing these young musicians from getting a job. We want to share with them the secrets of professional orchestra performance and “arm” them with the experience and skills which they require at the beginning of their professional careers. In the future we would like to expand the scope of the Academy to include other orchestral instruments. For now, we are implementing a pilot programme in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage” – says Janusz Marynowski, General Director of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.
