The first world performance of Piotr Moss’ Concerto élégiaque for viola and orchestra played by Katarzyna Budnik-Gałązka and Sinfonia Varsovia under the direction of Jerzy Maksymiuk will take place in Warsaw on 24 May 2017. The project is delivered under the “Collections” Programme, priority: “Composer Commissions” of the Institute of Music and Dance.

Piotr Moss is a Polish composer who graduated in composition from the State Higher School of Music in the class of Piotr Perkowski. He then continued to study in France under the direction of the legendary Nadia Boulanger. He is a laureate of many Polish and foreign composers’ competitions, having won 1st prize in the International Composers’ Competition in Montserrat (Spain) for Salve Regina for boys’ choir and organ (1981) and 2nd prize in the Karol Szymanowski Competition in Warsaw for Veillée for oboe and string orchestra (1988). Piotr Moss has written several dozen orchestral, chamber, solo and vocal works, both classical and popular. He has also composed music for theatre, film and for children.

The first performance of Concerto élégiaque will take place in the Concert Hall of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music as part of the MASTERS OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC meetings in the “Wednesday at Okólnik” cycle.

The project has been financed partly from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage under the “Collections” Programme, priority: “Composer Commissions” of the Institute of Music and Dance”.
