La Folle Journée is an extremely popular international festival of classical music. This is the seventh time the Festival is held in Warsaw and the first it goes out to the cities of Żyrardów and Mińsk Mazowiecki.

La Folle Journée is an event without precedent in the world of culture. Through its attractive form, wide variety of concerts, world-class artists and symbolic ticket prices, the Festival attracts enormous audiences around the world. Initiated in 1995 in France by René Martin, the Festival soon expanded to Spain, Japan, Russia and, as of 2010, to Poland. Following the French edition, the organisers of the Festival – the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra and CREA will also invite listeners to attend concerts in Żyrardów and Mińsk Mazowiecki.

There will be a total of eight concerts in both cities. On 1 October, La Folle Journée will take place in Żyrardów and one day later, on 2 October, in Mińsk Mazowiecki. Both cities will see performances by musicians from Sinfonia Varsovia, the Polish Chamber Orchestra with violinist Jakub Jakowicz and two foreign ensembles: Bizjak Piano Duo and Trio Hélios.

The programme of this year’s Festival is linked closely with its main theme – Nature – an inexhaustible source of inspiration for composers. The repertoire includes works illustrating the four seasons of the year, compositions which pay homage to the beauty of natural landscapes and those which relate to the stages of life in nature. Residents of Żyrardów and Mińsk Mazowiecki will hear works comprising the core of the main festival. These include Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. One concert in each city is intended for children.

“For the first time, we are going outside the boundaries of Warsaw with the Festival and this is a great step forward for us in its growth. We hope that the audiences of Żyrardów and Mińsk Mazowiecki will take great pleasure in getting carried away by La Folle Journée.” – says Janusz Marynowski, Director of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.
