On Thursday, 22 October 2015, in the presence of the President of the Capital City of Warsaw, Ms. Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, architect Thomas Pucher and Director of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra Janusz Marynowski signed a contract for the delivery of design documentation for a new Sinfonia Varsovia concert hall and development of the property at 272 Grochowska Street.
Warsaw’s Right Bank Gains Music Centre
The construction of a new music centre for Warsaw, concentrated around the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra is one of the priority projects of the Revitalisation Programme. A contract with the architect was signed on 22 October 2015. It launches the design process for this very important investment on Warsaw’s right bank.
“The new Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra Music Centre will be more than just an attractive place to present classical music and other arts. It will also be a place to spend leisure time. A contract was signed today with architect Thomas Pucher, who will now begin to work on the design. I hope to invite Warsaw’s residents to the first concert in the newly-built hall in early October 2021” – says Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, President of the Capital City of Warsaw. “Considering the scale of this project and its significance to the development of Warsaw’s right bank, this investment is one of the priority projects in the Revitalisation Programme.
Negotiations with Architect Thomas Pucher
Negotiations regarding the terms and conditions of completing design documentation for the investment titled Renovation of Historical Facilities and Construction of a Concert Hall for the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra at Grochowska Street were held on 16-20 October 2015. The negotiations were led by Janusz Marynowski, director of the Orchestra, together with the tender commission appointed by him. Furthermore, the Employer will have top quality acoustics assured already at the negotiation stage thanks to the assistance of international expert Eckhard Kahle. The Designer’s negotiations team was led by Thomas Pucher, author of the winning competition entry.
The schedule provides for work on the design to start at the moment of signing the contract and to be completed in March 2017. The design documentation for the renovation of five historical facilities and construction of a new concert hall on the grounds of the former Institute of Veterinary Science at 272 Grochowska Street and the schedule of the works were negotiated so as to be able to finance part of the investment with EU funds (apart from funds secured by the Capital City of Warsaw in the Long-Term Financial Forecast for the delivery of the task Renovation of Historical Facilities and Construction of a Concert Hall for the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra at Grochowska Street.
Construction works are planned for the next four years. The first stage of the works will consist of renovation of the three historical buildings facing Grochowska Street. This schedule will assure continuity of the Orchestra’s work during the investment. Orchestra rehearsals will be taking place in the buildings renovated first, with the Orchestra’s administration also moving there. The investment also entails a comprehensive rehabilitation of green areas and creation of a garden of the arts.
As the construction goes on, the institution of culture of the Capital City of Warsaw will conduct concert and educational activities intended for residents of the city of Warsaw, and in particular for residents of the Praga district, taking into account the objectives of the Integrated Programme of Revitalisation. The objective of these activities is to strengthen social relations.
