272 Grochowska Str., Warsaw
The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra has prepared the perfect offering for all who associate winter evenings with lights, atmospheric music and hot chocolate. Three exceptional events will put listeners in a joyous holiday mood.
The holiday season in Sinfonia Varsovia begins on 7 December. If adults miss the childhood joy of receiving presents after St. Nicholas Day on 6 December, they will certainly appreciate the surprise that will await them in the Orchestra’s home. Light and Sound is an informal evening that will allow you to relax while surrounded by music and light installations. Three different spaces will feature brief concerts with a wide variety of music, from flute quartets by W. A. Mozart, through jazz arrangements of Christmas standards to pop winter songs. The performers will include musicians of Sinfonia Varsovia and the Singin’ Warsaw ensemble. All guests will be offered hot tea with cloves and oranges and hot chocolate. All concerts will begin at 7:00 p.m., simultaneously in the Rehearsal Hall, the Main Building and in the Concert Pavilion. They will be repeated at 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Each concert will last approximately 20 minutes to give listeners the chance to move to the next space to experience different music. Admission is free.
The next day, on 8 December, Santa Claus will arrive at 272 Grochowska Street, bringing many musical attractions for children of all ages. St. Nicholas’ Day at Grochowska Street begins at 10:00 a.m. with the PROMNI Artistic Folk Ensemble performing for the youngest children (aged 0-5) in the Rehearsal Hall. This concert will be repeated at 11:15 a.m. The café in the Main Building will open at 11:00 a.m., with Christmas decoration workshops. We will also have an opportunity to follow Santa Claus’ footsteps on the grounds of the Orchestra’s home. Children aged 6-9 will certainly be interested in interactive concerts at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. by the Wesołe Mazurki children’s ensemble and the WoWaKin Trio. The latter ensemble will also appear at 4:00 p.m. at a concert dedicated to whole families, featuring favourite Christmas carols and songs. Admission is free.
The programme of December events would not be complete without the traditional Christmas Concert performed by the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra. This year, this event, much loved by Warsaw’s residents, will take place twice: at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., giving more listeners a chance to attend. The programme of the concert includes Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s Three Pieces in Old Style and two works by Johann Sebastian Bach – Air on the G string and the Double Concerto in D minor, featuring violinists Celina Kotz and Adam Siebers. After the instrumental part of the concert ends, everyone will sing Christmas carols with the musicians of Sinfonia Varsovia and the Tempus vocal ensemble, under the direction of Andrzej Borzym jr. After the concert all listeners will be invited to a traditional Christmas Eve snack.
Admission is free, but due to a limited number of seats free entry tickets must be picked up in person one hour before each concert.
In order to retain the cheerful holiday mood as long as possible, the light installation will remain active all winter, enticing guests to walk around the grounds of the Orchestra’s home.
