The 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments begins in just over one month. This weekend, Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra’s home provides an opportunity to listen to recitals by Polish pianists qualified to take part in the competition. On Saturday and Sunday we will hear six musicians getting ready to participate in the competition.
30 pianists from all over the world, including 16 from Poland have been qualified to take part in the 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments. An initiative without precedent from the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute is intended to make listeners at large familiar with the unique sound of instruments used by Chopin to compose and play his music. The competition jury includes Nelson Goerner, Dang Thai Son, Ewa Pobłocka and Andreas Staier.
The Polish candidates will perform in the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra Rehearsal Hall at 272 Grochowska Street. On Saturday (28 July) we will hear Aleksandra Bobrowska, Łukasz Byrdy and Anna Hajduk-Rynkowicz and on Sunday (29 July) we will hear performances by Katarzyna Hajduk-Konieczna, Łukasz Chrzęszczyk and Aleksandra Świgut.
The Competition officially kicks off on 2 September with the Inaugural Concert in the National Philharmonic Concert Hall. Participants will appear in Sinfonia Varsovia’s home again during the competition. Small recitals between 5 and 9 September will provide a last minute opportunity for the young pianists to test themselves before the upcoming stages of the competition.
All recitals are part of the Summer with Sinfonia Varsovia concert series. This also includes the Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street cycle of chamber music concerts, Dance Parties with live music and the Sinfonia Varsovia at Grochowska Street series.
Recitals by competition participants have been organised jointly with the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute.
