Artur Janda

Bass-baritone, pianist. Graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Music in the singing class of dr A. Radziejewska and piano class of Professor K. Gierżod. Laureate of singing competitions, including the F. Platówna Competition in Wrocław and the Reszke Competition in Częstochowa. Recipient of scholarships from the Prime Minister, President of the City of Częstochowa and of the Government of Lower Austria. Janda has performed as soloist on most concert stages in Poland, under the direction of renowned conductors. He performs and records regularly with the “La Tempesta” early music ensemble.

Artur Janda became a soloist of the Warsaw Chamber Opera in 2008. With the Opera, he has appeared as Orbazzano (Rossini’s “Tancredi”), Alidoro (Rossini’s “La Cenerentola”), Selim (Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia”), Imeneo (Haendel’s “Imeneo”), Orfeo (Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice”), Figaro (Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”), Masetto (Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”), Dulcamara (Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore), the Marshall (Moniuszko’s “Halka”), Azarias (Britten’s “The Burning Fiery Furnace”), Sewer (Krauze’s “Polieukt”), Professor (Dobrzyński’s “Operetta”). He also appeared singing the part of Sewer in the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (2011). In May 2011 he appeared for the first time in the National Theater Mannheim, in the roles of un Passante and un Poliziotto in the première performance of Sciarrino’s “Superflumina”.

Working together with the “Dramma per Musica” Association, he performed on the stage of the Stanisławowski Theatre in Warsaw in the role of Pallante (Haendel’s “Agrippina”), Zoroastro (Haendel’s “Orlando”) and Melisso (Haendel’s “Alcina”).

He also performed in the Warsaw Autumn Festival in Warsaw (2016) as “Il Malaspina” in Sciarrino’s “Luci mie traditrici”, reprising the part in the NODO Festival in Ostrava (2018).

Artur Janda has been working with Teatr Wielki – the National Opera since November 2016, singing Zbigniew in Moniuszko’s “The Haunted Manor” and Escamillo in Bizet’s “Carmen”.

He also appears in guest performances in the Wrocław Opera (Rossini’s “La Cenerentola”, Możdżer’s “Immanuel Kant”), in Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz (Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”, Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore”) and in the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk (Bernstein’s “Candide”).

Artur Janda is also an experienced performer of sacred and oratorio music, including Bach’s St. John and St. Matthew Passions, the Mass in B minor, the Christmas Oratorio, Haendel’s Messiah, Haydn’s “The Seasons”, “The Creation” and “Theresienmesse”, Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass, Fauré’s – Requiem, Kurpiński’s – Te Deum and Kilar’s – Te Deum.

As member of the proMODERN Contemporary Music Vocal Sextet (2012-2015), Janda received two Fryderyk awards in 2015, including for the Best Recording of Polish Music (the album “Where Are You. Pieces From Warsaw”).

In 2018 he received the Fryderyk award in the Early Music Album of the Year category for the recording of Antonio Caldara’s “Maddalena Ai Piedi Di Cristo”.
