The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra once again invites residents of Warsaw to enjoy free concerts of classical chamber music. The cycle of 34 meetings titled “Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street” began in May and will last until the end of August. There will also be an exhibition of photographs and open-air dance parties.
The Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street cycle of chamber music concerts is being held for the sixth time. During the concerts, listeners have an opportunity to enjoy a full spectrum of classical music – from Renaissance to the contemporary. The programmes have been developed to satisfy connoisseurs, as well as those only starting their adventure with classical music. Twenty concerts held on consecutive Saturdays and Sundays at 4:00 p.m. will provide ample opportunity to listen to talented musicians of the young generation and to renowned artists with established careers.
During the concerts the audience will also be able to enjoy a visual feast, consisting of an exhibition of photographs by Waldemar Kielichowski, titled Pianos with as Past. The images were made in the course of work in a project of the Institute of Music and Dance titled The Piano in Polish Collections. The photographs show the inside of a pianos – mechanisms of instruments built with clockwork precision, beautifully embellished frames, elegantly profiled keys and pianos in parts, including some surprising devices they contain. The exhibition will be available to view until the end of August during Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street.
At the turn of July and August, listeners attending the Summer Concerts who also love to dance will be able to spend a bit more time at Grochowska Street on four Saturday afternoons. On 23 and 30 July and 6 and 13 August at 6:00 p.m., an especially prepared open-air dance floor will set the scene for dance parties with live music accompaniment. Each meeting will be devoted to a different dance – participants will try their hand at the tango, swing, traditional music of Warsaw and mazurkas. The dance parties will be preceded by short workshops in the given dance. The afternoon of traditional Warsaw music will be preceded by a sing-along workshop.
Admission to all events is free.
